The Best of Local was founded by Misty Gibbs, an Austin-based publisher and editorial strategist with more than 20 years of experience in publishing, media, and digital strategy.
For a decade, Misty published Haute Finds, a top regional lifestyle magazine and local guide. Across 40-plus issues, she featured over 300 local businesses and interviewed founders and owners throughout the Austin Hill Country.

How are businesses selected for The Best of Local?
Our editorial team independently researches businesses based on reputation, expertise, experience, verified credentials where relevant, client feedback, and local standing. Each guide is intentionally limited to a small number of featured experts.
Can businesses pay to be featured?
No business can pay to bypass our editorial selection process. Businesses that are selected may choose to participate in The Best of Local Interview Series, and all paid partnerships are clearly disclosed.
